The area
On Rue Scheffer, between the Place du Trocadéro and the Rue de la Pompe, the 16th arrondissement is the Paris of quiet avenues and pale façades. The Trocadéro esplanade and its gardens are a five-minute walk away: this is where you see the Eiffel Tower whole, and there is no finer way to start a first evening. The tower itself is a quarter of an hour away, down through the gardens and across the Pont d’Iéna. The Palais de Chaillot houses the Cité de l’architecture, the Musée de l’Homme and the Musée national de la Marine. The Musée Guimet and its Asian art are twelve minutes away, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée d’Art moderne a quarter of an hour, the Musée Marmottan Monet fifteen minutes in the other direction. The shops of the Rue de Passy and its covered market are seven minutes away, Avenue Victor-Hugo nine. The Rue de la Pompe Métro (line 9) is five minutes away, Trocadéro (lines 6 and 9) six and Passy (line 6) seven; the Bois de Boulogne is a quarter-hour walk.
