A rainy day in Paris: the plan that saves a trip

Covered arcades, indoor markets, grand cafés. Six hours without getting wet, from the 2nd arrondissement to the Marais.

Paris has around twenty covered passages, remnants of the early nineteenth century and the obvious answer on a rainy day. Link Galerie Vivienne, Passage des Panoramas and Passage Jouffroy: you cross the 2nd and 9th arrondissements almost entirely under cover, among booksellers, stamp dealers and tea rooms.

Carry on to a covered market for lunch, then a reasonably sized museum — Carnavalet for the history of the city, free, or the Chasse et Nature museum for its strangeness. Both are in the Marais, a few streets apart.

End in a grand café where you can stay two hours over a single drink: it is a local tradition, nobody will rush you. And if the rain settles in for three days, tell us: we will have groceries delivered so you do not have to go out at all.

A question about this during your stay? We answer before you arrive.
